MOUSE REPAIR

Fixing My Razer Viper V2 Pro Scroll Wheel

Date: February 17, 2025

Recently, I've been experiencing issues with my Razer Viper mouse's scroll wheel. Sometimes it scrolls in the opposite direction or doesn't register at all. After some research, I found a few potential fixes that i wanted to try out.

The core issue is that according to my research Razer wanted to save a few cents on producing this 150€ Mouse and installed some shitty encoder in the scroll wheel that collects dust like it's life depends on it.

Method 1: Compressed Air

The first and easiest method is to use compressed air to clean the scroll wheel mechanism:

  1. Spray compressed air into the left side of the scroll wheel where the encoder is installed.
  2. The issue will be gone or lessened but reappear within ten minutes of use.

Method 2: Replacing the Encoder

As i was not happy with blowing compressed air into my mouse every 10 minutes i decided to replace the crappy encoder razer put into the mouse to save a few cents with a better one.

  1. Remove the mouse feet to access the screws
  2. Unscrew the bottom plate
  3. Carefully open the shell and disconnect any cables
  4. Clean the scroll wheel mechanism with isopropyl alcohol
  5. Mount the PCB to some clamps
  6. Clean the contacts of the encoder
  7. Apply flux and heat the contacts with your Soldering Iron
  8. Use a Soldering Wick to "soak" up the now liquid tin
  9. Once all the contacts are removed, carefully take out the shitty old encoder
  10. Drop the New Encoder into place
  11. Apply tin to from new contacts between the PCB and the new encoder
  12. Clean off any reamining flux
  13. Reassamble your mouse

As a Guide i used this really nice video from ClickFix on Youtube

I'll update this post with the results of my repair attempt. Wish me luck!

Sooo Yesterday i went ahead and opened up my Mouse, and after figuring out my AliExpress Soldering Iron, i actually managed to successfully swap out the Encoder and fix the scroll wheel.

One small issue though.... perhaps i wasn't careful enough with the soldering iron and accidentally touched the Right Click Switch, so now the right click doesn't work anymore, but that should be fixed rather easily, i will order a replacement and swap it out.
